Flights of Fancy

Flights of Fancy H:83cm x W: 108cm
August 2003

Recycled wool blanket, hand dyed. Wool surface stitching. Machine pieced. Backing is Indian cotton rep as it doesn't stretch and holds the weight of the wool.

Currently in America at the Changing The World One Step At A Time exhibition in Arizona, curator Thelma Smith.
Has also been exhibited in Holland but never shown in Australia.
Like skeins of migrating birds, asylum seekers
roam the world looking for a place to land and
build a new nest.

This quilt has since been sold.

Wow. Now this has impact - a visual simplicity that is easy on the eye, but the colour makes it truly arresting. It is nicely balanced too...which makes an interesting statement given the quote about assylum seekers.

Seemingly so simple - and so satisfying.
